Disney Destiny: A Magical Voyage Through Heroes, Villains, and Unforgettable Adventures

Disney Destiny: A Magical Voyage Through Heroes, Villains, and Unforgettable Adventures

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to preview the brand-new Disney Destiny – the third ship in Disney Cruise Line’s Wish class. While the Wish class isn’t my favourite overall, I already knew the Destiny would be the standout of the trio before I even stepped on board. And sure enough…it was.

With a theme centered on Heroes and Villains, plenty of Marvel magic, and unique entertainment experiences, the Destiny brings a fresh, exciting energy to Disney’s fleet. Here’s my review of what makes this ship so special, from staterooms to shows, dining to lounges, and everything in between.

Theming That Speaks to Every Disney Fan

The Destiny’s theme is Heroes and Villains, which is an absolutely brilliant nod to Disney’s gigantic storybook. There’s a heavy dose of Marvel (no complaints here). I was instantly smitten with the Black Panther statue in the atrium, Spider-Man waving at us during embarkation, and Loki casually telling us all about his completely unjust accusations. And the main stage show? Hercules; my all-time favourite Disney animated film and a perfect fit for the ship.

Meet Your Onboard Sidekicks: Zayah & Gamble

Disney has introduced two new characters unique to the Destiny: Zayah and Gamble. These two provide nonstop comedic brilliance throughout your sailing from helping guests write a song for Cruella at DeVil’s or narrating the absolutely hysterical With Great Power! A MARVEL Comedy Show (18+) in Saga.

Where to Sip and Chill: Bars & Lounges

A returning favourite from the Disney Treasure has made its spooky comeback: The Haunted Mansion Parlor. It’s a haunted lounge featuring ghoulishly delightful “spirits.” And no flash pictures, please. The spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights.

For something brand-new, step into the first lounge on a Disney ship inspired by the sorcerers and occult artifacts from Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange. This mystical sanctum is filled with magical cocktails, mocktails, coffees, and dynamic entertainment. It feels like stepping directly into the MCU but minus the danger of falling through a portal.

If you need a caffeine fix, Destiny’s got you covered with two new charming coffee spots: Café Megara and Café Merida. Whether you’re in the mood for a bold espresso to start your day or a cozy spot to unwind with a latte, these cafes blend world-class coffee with subtle Disney magic. Both offer a peaceful respite from the ship’s excitement.

Showtime: Why Hercules Steals the Spotlight

Yes, I mentioned Hercules already and yes, it deserves a second spotlight. This is the best show currently sailing with Disney. Moana on the Disney Treasure comes close, but Hercules earns the gold medal for one big reason: it’s upbeat. No parent dies before the opening credits. No child is separated from their family by catastrophe. No one is being raised by woodland creatures. It’s just a fun, joyful, heart-filled story reminding us that a hero is not measured by their strength, but by the strength of their heart.

The original humour from the animated film is intact (“Somebody call IX-I-I!” will always be iconic), and they added fresh jokes to keep things lively. The talent is exceptional, especially the Muses, who absolutely steal the show. The performance of “A Star Is Born” rivals Gaston from Broadway’s Beauty and the Beast. Tambourines are used instead of beer steins, but the energy is just as electric and memorable.

Your Room Away from Home: Stateroom Highlights

The staterooms on the Destiny are sleek, elegant, and easily Disney’s finest yet. Characters featured include Hercules, Mulan, Raya and the Last Dragon, Brave, The Incredibles, or Big Hero 6. Our stateroom (deck seven) featured Mulan. With flat-screen TVs, a glass shower door, and elevated finishes, these rooms feel more boutique-hotel than cruise ship.

Dining with a Twist: Worlds of Marvel & Pride Lands

Worlds of Marvel brings in beloved MCU characters with a mix of quantum tech and world-class cuisine. It features Rocket and Groot, along with optional Marvel trivia. It’s fun, though I’d love to see enhancements in the future.

Like the other Wish-class ships, the Destiny offers a theatrical dining experience unique to the ship.

  • Disney Wish: Arendelle (Frozen)
  • Disney Treasure: Plaza de Coco (Coco)
  • Disney Destiny: Pride Lands (The Lion King)

As someone who lived through the Disney decade, I can confirm: The Lion King soundtrack is still a masterpiece (thank you, Elton). Pride Lands became my favourite of the three for its show, unique drinks (shout out to Can you Feel the Rum Tonight) food, and the finale – He Lives in You – the greatest Lion King song ever written. I said what I said.

Kid’s Clubs: Where Disney Magic Never Ends

The children’s spaces remain unmatched and I mean unmatched. They’re the same as the Wish and Treasure, but they’re so strong that they deserve praise every time. The Oceaneer Club features Avengers, Star Wars, princesses and more. The Hero Zone has basketball, air hockey, ping-pong, and other physical games. Edge and Vibe continue to be teen and tween favourites. One of the best-kept Disney Cruise secrets? Kids often prefer these spaces over spending time with their parents.

Disney’s entertainment advantage is simple: they own everything. Music, characters, stories, all of it. So while other cruise lines are restricted, Disney can offer an endless lineup of entertainment at the highest quality.

Final Thoughts: Why You’ll Want to Sail Longer

My only major disappointment? Our sailing was only three nights. Which simply isn’t long enough to experience everything the Disney Destiny has to offer. If you truly want to immerse yourself in everything this new ship brings to the seas, I highly recommend choosing a minimum 5-night sailing.

If you’re dreaming of a cruise filled with unforgettable stories, immersive themes, and world-class entertainment, the Disney Destiny should be at the top of your list. Whether you’re a Marvel fan, a Disney classic lover, or traveling with family, this ship offers something truly magical for everyone.
